Have you ever felt like you're doing everything right and still not seeing the results you want? You're eating clean and exercising, drinking a ton of water and eating lots of fruit and vegetables, yet you still have that roll hanging over your jeans and the mid-day energy crash? Check in to see if any of these common mistakes apply to you:
You're drinking your calories.
We often turn our focus to food and forget that there can be a ton of sugar and calories hiding in our beverages! If you're loading up your coffee with sweetener and creamer, having a drink after work with the girls, or pounding a protein shake after your workout, all of those extra calories can add up. Take a look at what you're eating AND drinking. Try tracking your food and drink consumption in a food journal for 3 days to see if there is anything you're missing. It's a really rewarding exercise!
There is hidden sugar in your food.
Hidden sugar is everywhere! Extra sugar can spike your blood sugar and increase insulin production, leading to weight gain and zapping your energy. Hidden sugar can be found in your morning Starbucks run, condiments and sauces (hello BBQ sauce!), and even in your "healthy" granola bars. Be diligent in checking labels and seeing how much sugar you're taking in each day. Look at not only the grams of sugar on the Nutrition Facts label, but the ingredients list to see where the sugar is coming from.
You're eating food that doesn't work with your body.
We are all SO different! A style of eating that works for one person may not work for another person. You probably know someone who gave up gluten and lost 15 pounds, whereas you gave it up and didn't notice a thing. Underlying food sensitivities can cause inflammation and keep the scale stuck, no matter how little you eat or how much you exercise. A strategically planned elimination diet can help identify foods that disagree with your body and cause you to hold on to excess weight.
These are three mistakes I commonly see in my private nutrition coaching practice. I speak with a lot of women who are "eating a healthy diet" and "doing everything right" and aren't getting the results they desire. One of the major benefits of working with a nutrition coach is having the outside perspective of someone else who can catch things you may be missing, like the 15 grams of sugar in your afternoon iced tea!
If you feel stuck, take a closer look at these 3 areas. I’m cheering you on!
